SoftActivity Monitor system requirements

  • Desktop computers, laptops or Windows tablets with the following minimum configuration:
  • CPU. 2 GHz or more x64 or ARM64 architecture (Recommended: recent Intel®, AMD or ARM64 CPU with 4+ cores).
    Note: For SoftActivity Monitor Server machine with a lot of monitored computers, a CPU with as many cores as possible is recommended on a Windows Server OS of the latest version. SoftActivity Monitor is a highly parallel and optimized application that uses multi-core CPUs to the best advantage;
  • Operating System. For monitoring console and server (Administrator’s/Supervisor’s PC or Server):
    • Microsoft® Windows 11 (recommended), 10, 8 or 7. x64 and ARM64 editions are supported.
    • Microsoft® Windows Server 2022 (recommended), 2019, 2016, 2012, or 2008R2. x64 edition.
    • Webapp Server component does not support: Server 2008R2, Windows 7, 8. Only Windows 8.1/2012 or newer are supported.
    • For accessing SoftActivity Web Console, desktop web browser is recommended: Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari.
    • RAM: may use 100 to 500 MB of RAM on the server.
  • Hard Drive Space: 1GB or more for the database and screenshots, or at least 200 MB per monitored computer;
    • Space for storing screenshots and logs on the server: varies from 10 MB to 4 GB per user per week (on average about 600 MB per user per week ). Frequency of screenshots can be adjusted by the admin.
    • Administrator can select a retention interval for logs and screenshots in Web console – Admin panel. The system will delete older screenshots and free up space.

For monitored computers. Client App (SoftActivity Monitor Agent):

  • Microsoft® Windows 11, 10, 8 or 7 are fully supported
  • x64, x32 and ARM64 editions of Windows are supported. The Client App is a native app for all platforms with no emulation, ensuring optimal performance.
  • VDI clients with any of the above Windows version, on most platforms, such as Citrix, or VMware. They have to be a single-session client edition of Windows (for example, Professional, Home or Enterprise edition). Install the Client App on a VDI image.
    There are some exceptions below for which you will need to choose instead either our on-prem TS Monitor our cloud-based Work, as the Client App will not install on these Windows editions:
    • Azure Virtual Desktop multi-session that uses Windows 11/10 Enterprise for Virtual Desktops (EVD). Single session Windows versions are supported.
    • Amazon WorkSpaces which offers Windows Server – based environment.
    • Other cloud-based services that offer multi-session Windows 11/10 Enterprise editions or Windows Server based.
  • RAM: Client App uses minimal RAM on the monitored computers, on average about 100MB
  • Hard Drive Space: 100 MB or more for local cache on the system drive;
  • Note: for monitoring user sessions on Windows Server OS and RDS Servers get our on-prem SoftActivity TS Monitor, or cloud-based SoftActivity Work software.
  • Private network connection to the monitored computers is required. Recommended: 1Gbps LAN. Wired LAN, Wi-Fi network or VPN are supported.
    • For monitoring remote workers – VPN connection to the main office is required.
    • For monitoring remote work-from-home computers without VPN use our cloud-based SoftActivity Work product instead. It can use just any Internet connection to securely monitor remote computers owned by your company.

For database server (for installation of PostgreSQL server for logs storage):

  • PostgreSQL included in SoftActivity installer supports: Windows Server 2022/2019/2016/2012, Windows 11/10/8.1, 32- or 64-bit editions
  • PostgreSQL downloaded from https://www.postgresql.org/ : BSD, Linux, Windows, Solaris, Mac OS X
  • SoftActivity currently officially supports PostgreSQL version 9.6 or newer. Version 12+ will be required since 2025
